More Re Do’s

I am so glad that you have come to Anne’s Attic – design there is so much going on and I really want to continue to share them with you. As I have said in the past I have been redoing all of my furniture and turning it WHITE! I live in a basement apartment that is pretty dark, and the walls are painted a pale dove-gray, with white trim, adding the white to the furniture really reflects the light and brightens all the rooms.

Here is the beginning of one of my projects, turning my blue wicker end tables into white ones. Usually I would use spray paint on wicker but I really wanted a real flat look so I painted them with a brush. If you choose to paint like this method use old paint brushes because they wear out pretty fast.

This robin egg blue really looked great in my last apartment, but in this one with the lovely gray paint on the walls white on the furniture really does it right.

Here is the look with the flat white paint. The paint washes finish washes up nice to.

I was really surprised as I was painting these end tables, they painted up really fast and it left a nicer coat than the spray paint.

I am very happy at how they turned out. I will have more to come don’t miss a post! Have a great Halloween weekend!

Weekend Junk n

Welcome, welcome all my dear friends, and welcome to all you new friends! I sure hope everyone had a beautiful weekend. I had a great weekend, and I has able to go Junk n! I have to share with you one of the items that I found and just had to take it home with me.

BeFunky_new lamp 3.jpg

Luck was with me and I found on my first stop a Capodimonte lamp! I wanted just one more for my bedroom and there she was waiting for me at the Urban Country Store. She is pristine. I couldn’t believe my eyes. She was just the right size that I wanted. I paid $50.00 for the lamp, not to bad for one that is in such good shape, and the shade was perfect as well.

Here is a close up of the swans, not even a scratch. Sorry the photo is so dark, but it gives you and idea of the beauty of this piece.

Here is another close up that shows the whole loveliness of the lamp.

I spent time finding great deals on vintage fabric as well. I’m going to make new pillow covers and Christmas stockings out of it. Yup, Iv’e been searching through magazines and the Pinterest for Christmas ideas for my home and family. There are so many great ideas out there I want to make them all, but being that time & money is not on my side to make them all I had to choose a few. LOL I’ll be sharing them later on with you.

If you had any great finds this weekend let me know, I would love to hear about them.
I would love for those of you who are not following my blog to go over to the right hand side and hit the FOLLOW button, Don’t miss out on anymore great posts.

A LOVERLY reDo

I am so glad that you have come to visit my dear neighbors, I have lots going on at Anne’s Attic – design this last week, but today I will share with you one of my very favorite redoes!

ch purple

This shabby looking chair frame is what I started with. I call it a harp back chair, which I purchased for $5.00 at a thrift store about five years ago. The chair is called a Duncan Phyfe Lyre chair. Duncan Phyfe Lyre was Scottish born, he settled in New York City and opened a shop and started making these beautiful chairs 1784. They were usually made in birch but a few were made in mahogany like mine is, it was made in about 1930.

BeFunky_u harp.jpg

My chair is fragile, I use it in my bedroom where it doesn’t get a lot of wear. Its like an old friend.

BeFunky_u sack seat.jpg

To recover the seat I put a chicken feed bag on it.

BeFunky_u finsihed.jpg

I sanded it down and used two coats of flat white paint, then I distressed with sand paper. Lastly I sprayed it with a clear flat finishing spray. I am really happy with the out come of my old chair. It makes me smile every time I walk by it. Its like an old friend that go a new hair do.

Stay tuned in for more redoes! Have a Great Weekend!

Is White a Color?

Hello all my dear friends! Is WHITE a color? Here is what G.K. Chesterton said about it and I tend to agree with him. “White . . . is not a mere absence of colour, it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black . . . ” I like this a lot!

Thank you everyone who gave me advice on how to paint the frames in my house. I went with mostly neutral, with a little darker undertones. I think that they turned out so amazing, they don’t feel like they are going to jump off the wall at me any more.

BeFunky_wht close up.jpg

Now they just blend in and look pretty.

BeFunky_wht ubove table.jpg

I really like the way they turned out above the kitchen set. I redid every frame in my house, bedroom, bathroom, you name it.

I love them so much that I have started repainting all of my furniture white with a great shabby look.
Check out my next few posts for some great reveals.

Painting Pumpkins with Children

Hello, hello everyone! I’m so glad that you have stopped by to see what’s going on at Anne’s Attic – design. I’m sure that many of you have been having a fun time celebrating Fall and doing great Halloween projects. I want to share one that I did with my grandchildren.

BeFunky_k painting.jpg

We have a tradition to go and pick out their own personal little pumpkin and then to bring it home and paint it anyway they want!

BeFunky_k pumpkins.jpg

After last years painting party I decided to take the children’s shirts off to spare their mother grief. Acrylic’s really doesn’t come out of clothing very well. The children started out painting cute faces on their pumpkins but then decided that they weren’t getting enough painting time in so they painted their pumpkins their favorite colors. Next year grandma will get them each two pumpkins. They had a ball, I was really surprised that most of the paint was on the pumpkin and not one them! LOL

BeFunky_mf tiny.jpg

What kind of traditions do you have in your family? I would love it if you would share your Fall and Halloween traditions with me whether they be with or without pumpkins.

See you soon! Have a great Fall day!

Capodimonte – Porcelain

Good day to all my dear friends from blog land. I hope you are really enjoying these beautiful cool Fall days. If this is your first time here please take your time and peak into some of the other posts and pages that I have written. Please be a FOLLOWER by clicking on follow this blog, and you will receive a post that comes right to your email in box.

Junkers, have you ever heard of Capodimonte – Porcelain? Or have you ever been over come when you are out junking when you fall upon a beautiful lamp, vase or figurines with beautiful roses and other flowers on them. Well, I have. I first discovered two beautiful lamps that I could not go home with out.

BeFunky_c lag.jpg

I found out later that they are made by a family in Naples Italy, established in 1743. The business stayed in the family until 1867. Their product is famous for the molded figurines and decorative flowers.

I saw a beautiful lamp go for $10.00 dollars with the shade the other day! Wow what a steal! I am now a collector of these beauties. One thing that I think is very funny is that my grandmother gave me a small vase of Capodimonte porcelain years ago that started my love for them.

I am a rose lover so having these beauties in my home is so fitting. I would love some smaller lamps to make candle stick holders out of them. They can be used in many different ways.

I hope that you enjoyed today’s post, when your out junk’n you just may run in to Capodimonte.
