Joey Flowers

I’m so happy that you are visiting today. I hope that all of you have had a lovely Mother’s day weekend and have felt all that extra love coming your way.  I have been having some fun making (what I call) Joey Flowers.

joey flower

These flowers are easy and fun to make and you can used up a lot of scraps making them. If you were to go and purchase them they would cost anywhere between five and ten dollars. All you need to know how to do is a basting stitch and with some flowers all’s I used was a glue gun.

jo making

This is how I made them. I used a long piece of fabric from an old lace curtain then hemmed it on one side and the other I hand sewed a basting stitch on the other side and then pulled the end thread to gather it.

jo loop

Pull the thread until it looks like this. You don’t have to hem the other edge if you don’t want to. This is the basis of the flower. From here you can stack as many of the ruffled flowers on top of each other and glue as you go.

Each flower can look different or just a like if you wish. I used lots of ribbon and made the tails quite long. You can embellish them any way that you like. Here I used a crown and a key. I did these all in neutral colors.

Here I made a garland of Joey Flowers. I tea stained a long white grosgrain ribbon, then added different yet a like in color Joey Flowers.

Here is a close up of the different type of Joey Flowers that I made. I added some squares of burlap on the back of this Joey Flower.

I even used some old charms of my two older children one of them. Can you believe that the baby boy in the picture is only three months old? He was huge!

You can even use buttons and printed images.

Each flower can be as individual as we are of course I had to do some blue and white ones for me. Have a good time making these and if you don’t like to make them email me and I’ll make some for you.

Have a lovely day!

  1. Those are beautiful and something even I might be able to make! lol Hope you ha a great Mother’s Day. My son and his lady, whom I hadn’t met yet, surprised me by flying in from Seattle (I live in Cincinnati) and my daughter that still lives here threw a big party and cooked everything! I am blessed!

  2. Love the Joey flowers! The layering is what makes them so fabulous. You really have a knack and I love the name you gave them! So glad that you will be sharing them with SYC.

  3. Oh Jo, how absolutely adorable! I love the little embellished burlap squares – so pretty! Thank you so much for sharing your loveliness with Roses of Inspiration. Hugs!
