Ladder for Decor?!

Hello again dear blogging friends! I just don’t know where this week has gone. I have been busy doing some fun additions to my little nest. Last post I told you about my son and I making a ladder together, so today I want to share this with you just how it was made.

latter making

This was a very rainy Saturday afternoon and we spent it under the carport pulling apart pallets, well okay Nate pulled them apart and I got out all of the nails. I used a 1X1, 8ft. cut in half for the sides, then cut another 8ft. 1X1 cut in 12″ lengths, I used four of them. We chose to use screws it makes this a lot more sturdy.

latter me

Yup, here I am doing some drilling, I really love getting my hands dirty. Must be from cleaning out stalls and hauling hay when I was a kid. lol I predrilled the holes, then screwed the rungs on about 10″ part.

There you go and very easy way to make a ladder. Now for the painting and the distressing.

latter bare

Here it is painted white with some distressing added.

Here is my sweet little ladder all decked out and used as a small shelf.

A lovely boxwood wreath with some birdies are perched on the ladder.

Here is a lovely vintage table-cloth hung on it. There are so many ways that you can use a sweet ladder like this, I thought about hanging it horizontal but I just didn’t have the room. I’m sure that it won’t stay like this for long but for now I like where it’s hanging. It didn’t cost me a dime because we had all of the materials.

latter ancestors

Here is a little tidbit that I want to share it’s an old pedigree sheet that I put together when I was twelve. I thought why leave it in a box when it can hang on my wall and I can see my wonderful ancestors that brought me to this wonderful state of Utah. The right side is my mother’s side of the family and of course the left side is my dads. I’m at the top in between my parents. I just find the past so fascinating. Someday I will chat with all of them.

Have a perfectly wonderful Memorial Day weekend, and do something nice for yourself.

  1. Love the ladder and I have one in my kitchen and bedroom. There’s so many great ways to use them, oh I also have one over my window in the kitchen. I haven’t used my smaller ones and have two down in the dungeon that I’ll have to pull out and use. Have a great day!

  2. Love your wee ladder – such a wonderful spot to display little treasures. I like your family ‘tree’ too – I love researching our roots and something like this would be perfect on the wall.

  3. That’s a fun little project you two created! But I really Love the pedigree that you still have, what a special and priceless treasure, enjoy seeing it! Blessings for a wonderful Memorial weekend, Cindy

  4. Isn’t it fun to take something old and turn it into something new and wonderful! What an amazing piece you’ve created… just love it!
