Wallpaper Signs

Welcome, welcome to my little nest. After some flooding, and spending time out-of-town with some family I decided I had better get my act together and let you know that I am still here.  I have a fun project that I want to share with you today.I have been searching Pintrest  over the weekend and found some great pins on using vintage wallpaper on wood floors. Check out my Pins under Anne’s Attic – design #2.  I thought why can’t I use this on pieces of wood pallets. So I gave it a try to this is what I came up with.

wall paper paint

When I make signs I like to use the roughest pieces of wood that I can find, so that’s why I have cracks and nail holes. I think that it gives the piece a lot of rustic character. I put a thin wash of pink paint on one and the other a light blue, this matches the vintage wallpaper that I am using.

wall paper modpodge

I used Modpodge for the glue and sealer. I love to use Modpodge and I like to use gloss on most of my projects it gives it a nice sheen.

wall paper diy

I tore different pieces of wallpaper to fit the board. I think that the tearing gives a nice look. I brushed on an even coat of Modpodge all over the board then laid the wallpaper on top and pressed down. Make sure that you get the air bubbles out if you have a hard time because of the unevenness of the boards surface you can prick it with a pin. But remember the look is to look old and faded and some wrinkling looks good. Next, brush a coat of Modpodge on the top of the wallpaper making sure that you push the ends down well. Let dry for at least an hour before stenciling.

wall paper romantic

I used a permanent black marker and alphabet stencils. One thing that I really love about signs in the home is that it really personalized it. You can stencil on just about anything that you want. Above is the pink sign that I made “Romantic farmhouse”. For the hanger I took a piece of twine the length of the sign then tied a knot in both ends, put a couple of staples by each knot. The knots keep the twine from pulling through the staples. It works perfect.

wall paper c

I really love the way the signs turned out. They look just like wallpapered wall boards which is the effect that I was trying to mimic. Here is the pin that I liked so well.

wall paper boston

I made these signs just for the sitting room area and as you can see I always have lots of help, and very handsome help to! This is Boston, five years old, he tells visitors “Grandma likes to keep her house REALLY clean”. He’s my pal.

I am off to party! It’s my 61 birthday, but I feeling like I’m ten years younger. Enjoy your new week!

Hugs, Jo
