Have you ever heard of Fil de Fer? It is French for wire-frame. I ran into a great article in a magazine a few weeks ago on how to wire-frame Christmas ornaments. . .
being a crafty type of person I just had to try it even if it didn’t turn out quite like I wanted it to. One thing that I found out is that you can’t really mess these up because shabby looking is sort of a good look for these ornaments. Ha ha
A doily is a perfect piece to use for a wire-frame ornament because of all of the little stitches that you can weave the wire in and out of. First of all I used a heaver gauge wire to weave a frame on the star.
After making a base that hold the star up I weaved a lighter weight wire around the edges adding a pearl bead every so often and twisting as I went.
This is what I came up with. It’s pretty time consuming and what I really learned is that you need to have the right materials for this project. Light bulb! I used a 12 gauge wire and looped it around my finger to make a spring that will fit over the top of the tree top.
I thought that I would give this another try so I made a crown. I need lots and lots of more practice to really do this right! Some projects just don’t turn out like you would like them. I thought that I would show you a project that I wouldn’t normally show you. One that didn’t turn out. Cause some just don’t. lol
Do any of you have an old cone that might look like this and you are just tempted to throw it out? I knew that I could up cycle this into something pretty, and I had lot of silver and gold beads in my stash.
I started to alternate gold and silver beads around the cone, gluing with a glue gun.
An hour later I had a wonderful silver and gold tree to use in a Christmas vignette. This turned out to be a great up cycle project. As you can see in the back ground I am in a pretty big mess around here with four grands wanting to check out everything that I have pulled out for decor.
I hope that you all have a wonderful week!
