Decorating with Florals Part 1

For some reason this Spring I have fallen in love with floral design. I have been adding more color to my decor. I have been looking through many of my interior design magazines, books and online for inspiration.

I think that the biggest source of inspiration for me this Spring was having my small rose garden burst into bloom. For some reason the blooms are twice the size this year. It is the third year since I planted it so it has a great start now.  The roses are all in lovely shades of pink with lavender growing along the border. Bringing the roses in door is one of my favorite things to do.

I adore this room and especially the vintage curtains. This page is my inspiration for my grand daughter’s bedroom. I thought that florals would be perfect for sweet little girls.

I like the look of the floral bedding not matching. This is what I have planned for the beds for the girls.

I was walking through Walmart with the girls one day, we were headed to JoAnn’s Fabric to pick out the fabric for their curtains but stopped at Walmart first. Once in awhile I will find some fabric that I like in their sewing department, and to my surprise I found a row of fabrics from Waverly. I was thrilled to find this floral print, it was only $3.99 a yard. It looks so much like the curtains in the book. I bought five yards but only used three yards for the curtains. The rest I have made pillow covers and a table runner for my little nest.

I had my son  bring the dresser upstairs and it looks so sweet and perfect in their room. They are thrilled that it has a mirror, I peeked in one day and they were twirling in front of it. lol

On two of the walls I have made a banner out of cloth and lace to dress up the room.

I am on the hunt for a shelf or shelving, they something to display their pretties. Juliette ask for a fairy godmother and so I made up this sweet little fairy.

More to come later. Have a wonderful holiday!

  1. I just received a copy of Rachel Ashwell’s book, Shabby Chic Inspirations, and loved the photos in that book as you did in your Ashwell book. The florals make décor look so “cottagey” and homey, reminiscent of a a simpler time when goods were hand-made and not so disposable . I think that is why I love and appreciate the look so much! I loved the banner in the girls’ room as it makes the room look so festive, which makes the look so fun!

    • Dear Phyllis, I just have to say ditto to every word you wrote. I remember adoring many of the things that my grandmother’s had in their sweet cottages. I know that is where I am building my decor from. In fact my Dad said to me a few months before he passed that I decorated just like is mother. I’m not sure if that was a positive or not. But I love it. Have a lovely new week. xx Jo

    • Thank you Judy. They are mostly in love with the mirror and they are doing a great job keeping it clean. The end of the month comes the bedding and some shelving, they get so excited with every little thing that I put in. It doesn’t take much to please little children. Have a great day. Jo

  3. Perfect choices for little girls. Im working on incorporating pattern into the master—but roses is kinda out—but I’m looking for a vintage looking paisley or overall to get the same shabby look.
Love this post, very nicely done, Sandi

    • Thank you Sandi for your kind comment. I guess I just need a change with infusing a little color into my rooms. Good luck on finding the right fabric for your bedroom. There sure is a huge choice out there. xx Jo

  4. The girls’ room is looking great! I really like the curtains too. It just gave me inspiration too for my bedroom. We moved last Oct. and I still don’t have curtains on many windows. I just can’t seem to find anything that I really like, until now! Thanks Anne!
