Fall Comes to the Bedroom with a Dream Catcher

Hello dear friends!  I have brought Fall into my little nest a little early. Fall is my favorite time of year. It’s like a breath of fresh fair every day. My favorite is a very blue sky with lovely autumn colors on the mountains. I also will be taking a break through the month of September. On the 7th of September I will be having a knee replacement. I’m pretty sure that I won’t be doing a lot of projects to share for a while.

I went junk’n today and found a wonderful travel trunk that I will be adding to my nest. It’s from the late 1800’s.  It is big enough to stash my two little grand daughter’s in, its that big. I will be painting it, it has a putrid green color on it so if you have any ideas what color to paint it let me know. I will be showing a picture of it next post for it’s in my son’s Tahoe waiting for him to haul it into my home when he gets home. It weighs close to 80 pounds.

Last time I shared the new pumpkins that I added to my pumpkin patch so this time I will show you how I used them in vignettes and a dream catcher that I made for the window right above my bed.

#2

Because my bedroom is so dark my pictures just don’t turn out like I would like them to. But this gives you some kind of idea how the dream catcher turned out. Here is how I made it.

dream catcher 1

This little project didn’t cost a penny. I used a purple embroidery ring and wrapped it with white scraps from an old sheet. Then I had this blue doily that fit the ring perfect and used hot glue to attach it.

Then I strung some beads of yarn in different lengths. I hung crinkly ribbon on the circle and glued a white feather at each end.

I even attached a crystal for good mental health. Some days I can use all I can get. lol

The dreamcatcher is catching those bad dreams just like I thought it would, see there are 3 little bads dreams up there already. lol

night stand

Starting at my bedside I put a lacy pumpkin to add to the Fall charm. I used soft whites and blues in my room for Fall this year along with a touch of pink.

Using soft stripes and florals adds a lot of lovely contrast. The quilt on the edge of the bed and the pillow shams are by Simply Shabby Chic.

More soft fluffy pumpkins adorn my dresser with just a touch of autumn leaves and pinecones.

navy boy

On one of the shelves in my bedroom I put some of my keepsakes. The little wooden sailor boy was just sent to me by my son and his family who live on an US Naval Base in Japan. It matches perfect with my decor.

Until next time!

Have a wonderful week!

  2. The dream catcher is lovely-not sure how you can have bad dreams in that comfy nest of yours, but it does happen and happens to me often enough-I just say my “Hail Mary’s” when my mind starts racing in the middle of the night to all the horrific things that can happen, and I always end up getting to sleep peacefully. I work with many people at my local Y that are recovering from knee replacements and those that keep doing their physical therapist’s exercises for range of motion do very, very well and get that 120 degree range of motion back, but it does take time. You will be good as new if you follow your team’s advice and let them know of anything that does not feel right.
The travel trunk sounds like a project that will be a lot of fun-I can just see it with a wonderful chippy finish!
Ps-I can’t wait to start dusting off my pumpkins and getting out my burnt orange/red décor for fall!

  3. So sorry to hear that you will be having surgery, but I know knee replacements are a necessary thing sometimes. Just be sure to do what the medical professionals suggest and above all, be sure to do the exercises as they are most important for recovery. Your dream catcher is wonderful – I think we’d all love one of those!

  4. Jo sorry to hear you need a knee replacement, I will send prayers up for you and wish you a speedy recovery. I love the color’s you chose for your dream catcher, Jewel toned blues – yum! Your fall touches look cosy and warm. Autumn is my favorite season and I change out décor to reflect fall after Labor Day. It’s been so warm in Philadelphia, today was another 90 degrees day! So I am looking forward to a crispness in the air and the beauty of nature’s glorious color’s. Your nest looks like a treasure trove to relax and reflect in, always enjoy a visit to see your new creations.

    • Hi Kris, thank you for the prayers I am getting a little jittery as I come down to the few days before surgery. It will nice to have it over with. The doctor is going to be doing a total knee replacement so no arthroscopic surgery for me.
      Luv ya, Jo
