I can’t believe that summer is almost here and that spring has gone by so quickly. No matter the season though I will always be using lovely pastels in my Romantic Shabby Chic Country Style Cottage. Wow that’s a mouth full! lol I started messing around with a new color that I have fallen head over heels in love with. I shared some of it on my last post and thought that I would share a little bit more of this fabulous color.
I always use Vintage Paint it is just my choice of chalk paint and have never had anything but great results from it. Just for your information I am not being paid to advertise this product I only want you to see what paints that I love to use in Shabby Lane Cottage. Click below for the link. They also mail it out to you in a very timely manner.
I started with a small project to see how the color would look. I ended up mixing Cotton 3/4 to a 1/8 of Mulberry. I wanted to keep in line with the pastels that I have in my Cottage so I lightened it a lot with the Cotton paint.
This little dresser has been painted so many times I figured one more time wouldn’t hurt. I just used the same mixture for some detailing and then I glued my favorite vintage wallpaper on the drawers. The wallpaper is from and great Etsy shop Neat Old Stuff. CP has lots of great vintage and vintage looking wallpaper she even carries Jeanne d’Arc wallpaper.
I decided that I loved the color so much that I would go ahead and paint a little more of it on this dresser.
Many of you who have followed me for a while will remember that I refinished this family heirloom for my granddaughters bedroom but later on down the road they got new furniture and so I took it with me too Shabby Lane Cottage. It got pretty beat up so it needed an overhaul. I love my little tikes but the permanent marker people were not going to stay. The dresser has been handed down for five generations so it will stay with me until I find someone who will really take care of it. I am using it as an end table in the sitting room.
As you can see from the photos above I painted the drawers with Vintage Paint in the Tea Cup (blueish lavender) color then painted a light wash of the lavender over the top so the Tea Cup will show through. After sanding it a little it turned out quite well. I am in the process of finding the right knobs for the bottom drawer. I had all the original knobs but through my move to Shabby Lane Cottage they got lost. They were only over 200 years old! A real bummer.
Now I want to add some fabrics with lavender in them for pillow covers and curtains. I have noticed that in the last few months in Romantic Country and Romantic Homes publications they to have been showing lavender and even purple in their romantic pictures. I guess great minds think alike! lol 🙂
I always love to find something new and use in my decor. I like to be different and not the run of the mill. One thing about paint you can always cover it up if you don’t like it. Have any of you been refreshing up your homes this spring? I would love to hear about them.
