My Favorite Things!

Hello Everyone! I decided that on Wednesdays I would do a post on my favorite things. I usually post on only home decor but this will give me a chance to share just a little bit of outside flavor with you. I would love to have you share your favorite things with me through your comments or email and then I can share it on a Wednesday post.

So here we go . . .

BeFunky_Nail polish.jpg

My first favorite thing is for all  you lovely ladies that like to get your hands messy yet love to see your nails with a pretty mani (that is if you don’t go out to have your nails done).  I heard about this nail polish from another designer and she loved it, she said that it stayed looking nice for ten days. So I had to give it a try. I got almost two weeks out of it! The polish is amazing, it dries within minutes, the colors are beautiful and it goes on seamlessly. One thing that I noticed that really helps it to stay on for me is to rough up my nails with a file before I put on the base coat. I didn’t use a Sally Hansen base coat though and it worked fine. I used 1 base coat, 2 coats of nail polish and one coat of top coat. It really is amazing.

BeFunky_Nails neat.jpg

My second favorite thing is an awesome Etsy shop called “Neat Old Stuff” . CP Phare Sales, she sales the coveted Jeanne d arc living magazine there.  Now you can buy the magazine at several other shops on-line but none will surprise you more than CP’s package when they arrive. Look at the one above, this one is wrapped in vintage wall paper with bits of ribbon, music and vintage pictures and always a sweet surprise inside the envelope. (Click on picture above to go to her shop)

BeFunky_Nails vio.jpg

I never waste a good thing. I stuck another one of CP’s master pieces in my old violin, it goes along with the music theme that I have in my dressing area. I always love and appreciate it when someone goes the extra mile, and she guarantees her shipping. Thanx CP!

BeFunky_Nail dress form.jpg

My last favorite thing was to see a precious child smile with delight.

A few weeks ago I was sewing away and my little granddaughter Juliette was playing with many of my fabric pieces. She found some light pink tulle and said that she needed a dress to twirl in. I stopped what I was doing and put her together a fun little tutu. I just gathered the fabric and sewed it on a gross grain ribbon. Very simple and easy.

BeFunky_Nail Jules.jpg

It wasn’t anything special but you would have thought that I had just given her the world. She twirled and twirled and played princess and tea party all afternoon. I love this little darling so much. As you can see she has very short hair. Jules is very good with the scissors and decided one day to cut off a pig tail. O my gosh I almost cried and Mom and Dad were not happy. But I gave her a quick little trim and now she says that her hair looks like grandmas! LOL Oh the joy of a child.

Have a beautiful day!

2014 in review

Hello dear friends I hope that your Christmas was joyous and full of family and friends. I am taking down Christmas and getting ready for the new year when my yearly report from WordPress came in and I want to share it with you. These are the results of my first 9 months of blogging results. Kind of like having a baby. LOL Thank you dear readers!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here's an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,500 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 58 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

I love it when you leave comments, let me know what you would like to see more of.

Have a very warm New Year! Jo

Thanx to all my dear friends that have helped me along the way!

. . . and all through the house

Merry Christmas to all my dear friends out there in blog land. This will be my last post until after the first of the year. It’s time to enjoy the family while school is out. I want to share a poem that I thought was cute and reminded me of when I was small, thinking that if I was out of my bed and not a sleep Santa would not come. Also I would like to show you the rest of my home that is ready for Christmas!

BeFunky_allthroughthehousecollage.jpg

A squeak on the stairs.
Could Santa be here?
Better pull my blankets,
Up to my ears.

He comes down the chimney,
That’s how he gets in.
Santa uses magic,
To make himself thin.

I better keep still,
Can’t make a peep.
He doesn’t leave toys,
Unless you’re asleep.

My door just opened
Someone’s by my bed.
It wasn’t Santa after all,
Cause Mom just kissed my head.

I love making Christmas stockings. The stockings hanging from the fireplace I made to match the pillows on the sofa. The single stocking I made from vintage table cloths.

Great rusty buckles, rings and old red thread make for a lovely vignette on my work bench, which is closed down for the season.

The presents are wrapped and under the tree. Now I will spend most of my time in the kitchen baking.

No matter how many pretties that we put into our home and know matter how many good smells come from the kitchen the reason for Christmas is because of the Jesus Christ and his great sacrifice that he went through for us. Because of this we celebrate Christmas.

Have a beautiful Christmas with love in your hearts. Merry Christmas!

Christmas Hutch

Merry Christmas to all my dear friends! I want to share with you some more of my Christmas vignettes. Here are some fun ideas that I came up with.

BeFunky_Christmas Hutch Collage.jpg

BeFunky_Christmas Hutch 4.jpg

In this picture are some vintage Santa mugs that I have had for years. I have kept all of my Christmas decor in neutrals but some times I just have to add some old favorites with traditional Christmas colors like these old Santa mugs.

BeFunky_Christmas Hutch 8.jpg

I started collecting reindeer this year and to my collection I added one from Sweden (where my ancestors are from) and this great metal deer, both from Etsy shops.

BeFunky_Christmas Hutch 1.jpg

I adore this old box and with a little added greenery, feathers, pine cones, and a candle it works perfect on my hutch.

BeFunky_Christmas Hutch 5.jpg

These beautiful bowls with birds on them adds color and more of my heritage from Sweden and Denmark. This time of year I really think about my ancestor and love to add bits and pieces of it to my Christmas decor.

BeFunky_Christmas Hutch side.jpg

The Christmas plates that I have on my hutch was a gift from my parents years ago. Mom said that know Christmas table should be set with out the proper dishes.

BeFunky_Christmas Hutch front.jpg

Here is a frontal photo that shows all the shelves. Just a note, I do not like it when Christmas lights take center attention away from all of my Christmas pretties, so I use white stringed lights and tie pieces of tulle in between, they look camouflaged kind of like snow. It just fits in better.

BeFunky_Christmas Hutch 2.jpg

I hope that you enjoyed some of my Christmas vignettes they are so fun to do and I am really enjoying the beauty they bring into my home. Until next time!

Oh Christmas Tree

Merry Christmas Season! I so hope that you are enjoying your Christmas Season and decking your halls with lovelies. Today I would like to share with you my Christmas Trees.

BeFunky_Christmas Tree.jpg

In keeping with my Shabby Chic + French Nordic design = Romantic Farmhouse design I choose this year to keep the neutrals going through out my Christmas decor. So the white tree and the neutral ornaments.

BeFunky_Christmas tree 1.jpg

I have an old chest that I painted white and put my white tree in it. I added aqua tulle in the box to cover the base of the tree.

BeFunky_Christmas tree 2.jpg

BeFunky_Christmas tree 4.jpg

I have many of these ornaments since mu first Christmas on my own. Some are from my Dad’s tree when he was young like the antique beaded garland.

BeFunky_Christmas tree 5.jpg

BeFunky_Christmas tree pink.jpg

I never thought that I would put flowers on a tree but for some reason they look great on this darling little pink tree.

I hope that you enjoyed my little tour of my trees. I have much more to share in coming posts on decorating your home for Christmas.

Religious Christmas Relics in the Home

Thank you dear friends for stopping by. I want to share with you today some beautiful vintage and antique Religious Christmas Relics. I really love having these pieces in my home and because of my faith in our Savior Jesus Christ I like to have several reminders, for myself as well as others. It brings a beautiful warm feeling.

BeFunky_Re angels.jpg

On the night of the birth of the Savior, Angels herald his coming.

BeFunky_Re bunny.jpg

I have a collection of many Angels and these are just a few.

BeFunky_Re gold angel.jpg

Angels are true messengers sent from above, they minister to us here on earth.

BeFunky_Re little angel.jpg

I call this one my little lost Angel for he has a haversack on is back.

BeFunky_Re ornament.jpg

I but them on my tree as well.

BeFunky_Re manger.jpg

This nativity scene has been in my home for over 40 years. It is a dear friend that I love to take out of the box. When my children were small we would read the story of the nativity from the Bible and the children would put the figures into place as we read.

BeFunky_Re symbols 3.jpg

These Three Wise Men sat on my Mother’s mantle when I was small. She gave them to me and I adore them.

BeFunky_Re scriptures.jpg

Here is an old Swiss Bible that has been in my home for over 40 years. The year Bible was printed in 1892! I wish I knew a little Swiss so I could read it.

BeFunky_Re Believe.jpg

During the Christmas holidays many hearts are open to do special things for others. But there are others whose hearts are sad and lowly because of experiences that they have had to deal with. I urge you to go the extra mile, help one another a little more, give a stranger a smile with a Merry Christmas. Say a little prayer before you get out of bed in the morning and ask that people who need your help will be brought into your life. If we have a belief in our hearts we can share it with others in many ways.

I would love it if you shared your special experiences with me. We all come into one another’s lives for a reason, let’s not miss a chance to share.
